MOHEC attack!

Ok, this post gonna be about debate and will be written in English (again..ugh -_-")

Last Friday (1st March 2013), my teammates and I participated in Ministry of Higher Education Cup (MOHEC) debate which was held in University of Malaya (UM). This was my second time participating in English Debate Competition. The first was Gender Debate at UTM Skudai (click HERE). This time the format of the debate was Asian Parliamentary Style, which is three against three speakers.

We got the cute t-shirt. :3

So, this was the first time I collaborated with seniors (Fawwaz & Kak Tyra). I've got the nervous feeling because I didn't think I was that good to join them and I was afraid I was being such a spoil brat. Yeah, like hell. They were good enough, speaking flawlessly, structured speech etc. While me? Duh. Startled a lot, sometimes 'lampi'. I sometimes thought that I was not deserved to be with them. I don't know if it was only me or they too were thinking that way.. Lol. After all, it ended dah pon. No need to think too much.

Well, we didn't make that too far. So far, we just won two over four preliminary rounds.

Round 1:-
Motion: THBT pop music is making our culture less creative
UNITEN 2 (govt) v. USIM 1 (opposition)
Result: Clear, we won the round

Round 2:-
Motion: THBT addiction should be treated as disease
UT Mara 2 (govt) v. USIM 1 (opposition)
Result: Close, we lost the round

Round 3:-
Motion: THBT athletes should receive academic credit for sports
USIM 1 (govt) v. HELP (opposition)
Result: We lost the round

Round 4:-
Motion: THBT prosecutors should face consequences if the innocent people go to jail
USIM 1 (govt) v. USIM 2 (opposition)
Result: We won the round

*THBT - This House Believed That (in Malay, we called it Dewan ini percaya....)
And this was also my first time of being third speaker. *Wallaweh.. Selama ni jadi 2nd speaker, tetiba kena jadi 3rd. memang masyukk gila lah. tergagap banyak bhai, -_-"*

The uneased feeling I've got throughout the debate is... the time. They weren't punctual at all. You know, the second round was supposedly started at 6 pm on Friday (if I'm not mistaken), but then the round started at 7.30 pm. Duh. Maghrib kot. Then, the debate went on until 8.30pm. Are you suggesting us to skip Maghrib?  Debate is just a competition, why would the schedule be setting up that way? It was kinda frustration and disappointment I felt towards the organizer.

The second is, yeah the 'pergaulan'. How the social interaction occured between the ladies and gents. Heh. I have mentioned about this before in this post, a hijabis Malay girl hugged to a non-muslim man, shook hands between men and women to show sign of professionalism. I know, people would rather say: "Hey, it's common lah. Wake up! Be open-minded!" Even if I was not strong to avoid this thing to happen, I still gotta the feeling, this is Haram. I thanked Allah for giving me this unpleasant feeling when seeing this thing happened. I'm afraid that my heart won't feel anything when seeing evil action is happening in front of me. Rasulullah s.a.w once said:

"Whosoever of you sees an evil action, let him change it with his hand; and if he is not able to do so, then with his tongue; and if he is not able to do so, then with his heart; and that is the weakest of faith."

But, all in all. We did have fun. It was fun to mingle around with seniors and juniors and debating together.. :)

p/s: time untuk pulun esaimenggg... baru minggu ketiga, tapi esaimen macam dah half-sem. -.-"
